Tour de Sober - 2008
New Years Day — 2008! Happy New Year!
BC 109!
22 Drivers with their families and rigs!
Sunshine Galore! Blue Skies! Perfect temperature!
What could be better than a day of wheeling under these conditions?
It was a great run and the weather was perfect. We thought it would be cold, but once we got down into the wash, it was just perfect. Shirt sleeve all the way. We had 22 rigs show up from the Trail Crew, the Frazier Park 4x4, some Bakersfield rigs, and Scouts West.
The day was mostly uneventful. One of the Scouts did break a left front axel in Oil Pan Alley and there were three bent tie rods on different vehicles. Over all it was rather uneventful.
Imagine, no FLAT tires!
We started by airing down near the highway, held a short drivers meeting with a closing prayer, and then headed down the gravel road to the end to enter Oil Pan Alley.
We had rigs from mild to wild. We had a Mitsubishi Montero that was probably the most stock and he made it all the way.
One of the really neat things about the run was that Chad, driving the blue full size pickup, made the trip. Chad has cerebral palsy and is somewhat limited in his ability to get around, but what a trooper. This was his first trip 4-wheeling and he did a wonderful job. He got down Oil Pan Alley and then got all the way to the rock garden before we decided that that was about far enough for this truck. I did not want him to destroy it trying to get over the rocks there.
Some of the rigs continued over the rock garden and ventured further down the trail to the end. I do not have pictures from that group yet, but will
post them when I get them.
Michael Caverhill was along in the Ford Ranger. He took a lot of pictures and is going to make a full-blown slide show for us of the trip. We are all looking forward to that.
Again, a great day, a great group of people and God provided us with a
perfect day for our 2008 TDS.
Have a Great and Prosperous New Year.
